Implant Dentistry

A dental implant is a titanium “root” device used in dentistry to support restorations that resemble a tooth, group of teeth or to replace missing teeth. Dental implants can be used to support a number of dental prostheses including: crowns, implant supported bridges or dentures.

Your smile can say a lot about who you are. Millions of people around the world are unhappy about how their teeth look. Some people even speak in a way that hides their teeth because they don’t like their smile. In addition, many people can’t eat or speak properly due to missing, decayed, or severely broken teeth. Dental implants can help restore a person’s smile, improve their quality of life, and boost their self-esteem.

If a patient has a tooth extracted or already has missing teeth, many of them assume that their only option is to wear a denture or live with missing gaps between their teeth. Fortunately, this isn’t the case. Your family dentist has a great procedure that can replace your missing tooth. A dental implant looks and functions just like a normal tooth.

Dental implants are made with high quality porcelain and metal and look like natural teeth. A titanium rod (the implant itself) is similar to the root of a natural tooth and is placed securely into the bone of a patient’s jaw. After the patient heals from the procedure, a porcelain crown is attached to the titanium implant. Once the crown is placed, the patient can begin to use the implant like a normal, natural tooth.

In addition to restoring a single tooth, dental implants can also be used to securely hold full dentures in place. Many denture patients struggle with the fit and stability of their dentures, especially on the lower jaw. Implants can hold these loose dentures in place and make it much easier for a patient to eat and speak.
